How to: Setup a Live Event



    To register a live event, open up the New Live Event wizard by pressing the "Go Live" button in the top right corner as displayed in the image above.



    • Title
      Set the title of your live event.

    • Description
      Set the description of your live event.

    • Category
      Choose which category your live event should belong to.

    • Tags
      Add tags to your live event.

    • Moderation
      Set the moderation status of your live event.
      Choose "Approved" if you want the live event to be visible on your Videosite.

    • Feature
      Choose whether you want your live event to be featured on your Videosite.



    • Start event
      Choose when you want your live event to start.

    • End event
      Choose when you want your live event to end.

    • Event length
      How long your live event should be

    • Preview lead time
      How long before the event starts you want to be able to ingest and preview your stream without it being visible to end users. It is recommended to always set up your event with a preview lead time of at least one hour before the event starts to make sure everything works.



    • Live Channel
      Select which of your Live Channels you want to stream from. If selected Live Channel is a Pull or Bypass Channel, you will see "RTMP URL" and "HLS URL" instead of "Ingest URL" and "Stream name".

    • Ingest URL
      If your selected Live Channel is a Push Channel, the Ingest URL is required for your encoder. 

    • Stream name
      If your selected Live Channel is a Push Channel, the Stream name is required for your encoder.

    • RTMP URL
      URL to external RTMP Channel used for a Pull or Bypass Channel.

    • HLS URL
      URL to external RTMP Channel used for a Bypass Channel.



    • Poster Image
      The image displayed before the event has started.

    • Logotype
      A small image shown in the top right corner of the player, when pressed the Logotype will link the to set Logotype Link.

    • Autoplay
      Player will start streaming as soon as it is loaded on the page it is embedded on. No action from the end user required on most devices.

    • Chat
      Enables chat functionality for the live event, allowing viewers to connect to a text chat associated with the live event. Chat can be moderated from Console.

    • 360° video
      If your live event is in 360° format, tick this box. Note that your ingested video stream must follow the equirectangular format, which is the standard for 360° video.



    • Ingest location
      Select the location closest to where you will be ingesting from. Selecting auto will choose a location based on your location when setting up the live event.

    • Time shift
      Enables Time shift for the live event, allowing viewers to pause playback and seek backwards by up to 4 hours while the event is live. More details can be found in this article.

    • Record event 
      Enables Recording. When a live event with Recording enabled ends, a recording of the event will be saved to your account as a video on demand under the same ID as the event. The recording is instantly available and all links or embed-codes used to present or publish the live event will instead show the recording. Recording is supported for events with a duration up to 12 hours.



    • Geolocking
      Lock the live event to only be available from within the permitted countries.

    • IP Range
      Lock the live event to only be available to users on the selected IP and within the selected IP Ranges.


    Create Event
    Press Create Event when you are finished filling in the settings above and you will be taken to the media page of your new live event, it is then time to connect an encoder to the live channel.

    You can setup an event with without going through all the steps explained above by pressing Create Event on the first page of the wizard using default settings. How to configure your default settings for live events can be found here.

    Note that you will be able to change details, scheduling, appearance, broadcast settings and security after the event is created.
